Early Life and Career
Marc Bolan was born Mark Feld on September 30, 1947, in Stoke Newington, London. His father was a furniture salesman, and his mother was a dressmaker. Bolan showed an early interest in music, and by the age of 12 he was playing guitar and singing in local clubs.
In 1965, Bolan formed his first band, John's Children. The band released two albums, but failed to achieve commercial success. In 1967, Bolan met Tony Visconti, who would become his long-time producer and collaborator. Together, they wrote the song "Ride a White Swan," which became a hit single for Bolan in 1969.
T. Rex
In 1970, Bolan formed T. Rex with drummer Mickey Finn. The band's early sound was a mix of folk, rock, and psychedelic music. But it was with the release of their third album, Electric Warrior, in 1971, that T. Rex truly found their own unique sound.
Electric Warrior was a critical and commercial success, and it spawned the hit singles "Get It On" and "Jeepster." The album helped to define the glam rock era, and it made Bolan one of the most popular and influential musicians of the early 1970s.
Later Career

In 1977, Bolan died in a car accident at the age of 29. His death shocked the music world, and it marked the end of an era.
