The Brooklyn Nets are an American professional basketball team based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The Nets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Atlantic Division.

The Nets were founded in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans, one of the original teams in the American Basketball Association (ABA). The team joined the NBA in 1976 as part of the ABA–NBA merger.

The Nets played their home games at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, from 1981 to 2010. In 2012, the team moved to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
