The Hollywood Legends 57 is a one-person play about the life and career of Hollywood legend Vivien Leigh. The play is divided into two acts, with the first act focusing on Leigh's early life and career, and the second act focusing on her later life and struggles with mental illness.
The play begins with Leigh's childhood in India. She was born in Darjeeling, India, in 1913, and spent her early years there. She was a precocious child, and began acting at a young age. In 1932, she moved to England to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her stage debut in 1935, and quickly became one of the most popular actresses in England.
In 1939, Leigh was cast in the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. The film was a huge success, and made Leigh a star. She went on to star in a number of other successful films, including Streetcar Named Desire (1951),The Elephant Man (1980),and Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994).
However, Leigh's personal life was often turbulent. She was married twice, first to Laurence Olivier and then to John Merivale. Both marriages were stormy, and Leigh struggled with mental illness throughout her life. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in the 1940s, and her condition worsened as she got older.
Leigh died in 1967, at the age of 53. She is buried in St. Martin's Church in London.
The Hollywood Legends 57 is a powerful and moving play about the life and career of one of the most iconic actresses of all time. The play is a must-see for anyone interested in Hollywood history, or in the life of Vivien Leigh.
